What will it be like to go to a police academy?

My fiance has been considering becoming a law enforcement officer and if he decided it really is what he wants, I was wondering what he could expect going to a police academy in California?
And what I’m really wondering is, would I have to go a few month without seeing him? Will he have to stay there all the time?
Essence, I would expect that kind of answer from someone who asked 12 questions about probation in the past 2 days. The personal turmoil that others make evident in a simple sentence is quite amusing though, thank you.
