America’s education problem: bad teachers or bad students?

I get tired of listening to people whine WHAAA WHAA WHATS ABOUT MA CHILDIN? THEY AINT LEARNIN NOTHIN. I have to say I was 100% satisfied with my high school education (i graduated about 6 years ago). I think the American education system is fine, but it is what you make out of it. If you want to be a slacker and mop floors, graduation requirements are pretty lax. If you want to learn, there is ample oppurtunity and you can always take initiative on your own. Do you think our education system is really that bad or are a good chunk of students in this country just stupid and/or lazy?
